(SHELBURNE, MA) — A raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the town of Shelburne. Franklin County Regional Animal Control was contacted by a resident of the Taylor Road and Hawks Road area of Shelburne on Monday after a raccoon reportedly attacked her cat. The raccoon was captured and tested positive for rabies, the first case of rabies this year in Shelburne. However, there have been multiple rabies cases in the West County, and officials say residents should make certain their pets are up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations. They also advise caution around any animal acting in a sickly or aggressive way.
