(Franklin County, MA) July’s rainstorms caused significant damage to roads, Greenfield is looking at an early estimate of $300,000 in damages. Newell Pond Place had a culvert wash away, Green River Swimming and Recreation experienced flooding, there was damage to city equipment, and overtime costs related to emergency response crews.

The town of Conway received even more rain and is estimating over $2 million in damages to roads, flooding farms and residents’ basements. The town declared a state of emergency to allow the town to spend funds, even at a deficit as they await aid from the state or federal government.

Conway has received a designation that it wasn’t necessarily looking for. Conway Massachusetts was named the wettest place in the nation in the month of July after receiving 21 inches of rain over 31 days. This surpasses the total of any town or city in the nation and neighboring Canada. 4.1 inches of rain is the average for the month of July for Conway. Northampton made the top five of all towns and city in the nation with just under 19 inches of rain in July.
