(Greenfield, MA) Many areas in and around Franklin County saw between 1 1/2 and 4 inches of rain between Sunday and Monday, with some areas seeing as much as 5 inches. Flood levels from heavy rains that swept through the area Sunday evening into Monday has exceeded those from July’s severe storms in many areas. MassDOT reported boards five feet high breaking on the Shelburne Dam, which were engineered to break at certain pressure levels. While the Green and Deerfield Rivers peaked Monday afternoon, some other water ways continued to experience water level rises. Some roads remain closed Tuesday including Nash’s Mill Road in Greenfield and Colrain Street will be closed until the bridge can be inspected following high water levels beneath it.
