(Boston, MA) The Massachusetts RMV has put new supports into place as newly eligible residents are applying for Learner’s Permits and driver’s licenses with the Work and Family Mobility Act coming into place this week. Over 100,000 applicants are expected this year and the RMV is extending hours and increasing staffing to handle the high volume. The Work and Family Mobility Act allows all residents, regardless of immigration status to obtain driver’s licenses. Former Governor Baker had vetoed the bill in May of 2022 saying that a driver’s license “will no longer confirm that a person is who they say they are,” however, the law was ultimately enacted in June of last year.
