(Deerfield, MA) Update 2 – According to a press release issued this evening just after 8 p.m. by the Office of the Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan, one of the drivers, a 97 year old Easthampton man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The passenger in the vehicle was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of Route 116 and Industrial Drive in Deerfield. Involved in the accident was a passenger vehicle driven by the Easthampton man and a commercial vehicle, both vehicles had two occupants.

The driver and passenger in the commercial vehicle did not require further medical treatment after being evaluated on scene.

Deerfield Police as well as State Police Troopers with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and the Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Update 1 – Roads have been reopened as of 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.

A motor vehicle crash occurred around 12 p.m. Monday on Route 116 in Deerfield. Route 116 is closed between Routes 5 & 10 and Sugarloaf Street until further notice. Police are asking drivers to seek an alternate route. More details on the accident to come.
