(Greenfield, MA) Mayor Roxann Wedegartner delivered a virtual message to the Greenfield High School Class of 2020 today. In a world turned upside down, Wedegartner compared the memory of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to other historic times, like war and the Kennedy assassination.

“You’ll remember the day they cancelled fun,” said Wedegartner. “That is your story, this is your time.”

Wedegartner delivered a message of hope to the Class of 2020 and referenced the Vietnam War, a time when economic and racial issues were at the forefront of the American landscape. Then, like now, the upcoming generation used their voices and their votes to make change and repair a fractured America. A world turned upside down brought new dreams and a cleaner, safer world.

“You have abundant opportunity in front of you because you are who you are at this moment in time,” Wedegartner said.
