(Boston, MA) The Massachusetts office of the United States Marshals Service is warning the public of a ‘Spoofing’ scam wherein scammers are contacting Massachusetts residents saying they are working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Marshals. Imposters say they have a package containing illicit drugs or weapons and the victims’ I.D. and basic information, attempting to get bank information. The spoofing element is when scammers utilize software to modify what number appears on the caller I.D., most recently appearing at U.S. Marshal Brian Keys of the Massachusetts District.
