GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A line of strong thunderstorms swept through Franklin County Friday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy rains, and vivid lightning.
A Colrain resident reported a prolonged period of hail, with the hailstones quickly accumulating on his deck and walkway.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning. Most of the communities affected so far are in the west country, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Shelburne, Heath, Rowe, Hawley, and Conway.

 Until 515 PM EDT.

 At 325 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing

heavy rain across the warning area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain

have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1

hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in

the warning area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin

shortly.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban

areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as

other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Buckland, Conway, Shelburne, Ashfield, Colrain, Charlemont, Heath,

Plainfield, Rowe and Hawley.

Additional rainfall from thunderstorm approaching from the south may

result in localized Flash Flooding for portions of western Franklin

County

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.
