SHUTESBURY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — As a result of Shutesbury’s Green Communities grant, the town has been able to weatherize all of the municipal buildings leading to huge energy savings and opening up the possibility of future projects to further decrease the Town’s dependency on fossil fuels.

The town is anticipating a CO2 emissions reduction of 25 tons, which is a 7% reduction in total energy use, and a projected $8,020 savings on heating fuel alone.

With the state working towards a net zero emissions by 2050 goal, Shutesbury can now, after weatherizing the buildings, look into other projects to further reduce the town’s dependency on fossil fuels such as installing heat pumps.
