(Shutesbury, MA) The 30 day public comment period is drawing to a close for Shutesbury’s Lake Wyola Watershed-Based Plan. The goal of the watershed plan is to understand the current conditions of the water system and how to support water quality through future land use and development climate change. Lake Wyola is currently polluted by agriculture and resource extraction sites, forest, septic systems, boat wakes, and underground storage tanks.
The study is looking into capturing runoff and reducing pollutants through Best Management Practices and education and outreach. Residents can still send in images of untreated stormwater runoff or erosion on their property or other comments on the plan to KMacPhee@FRCOG.ORG through today.
