(Deerfield, MA) — It looks like the South County Senior Center building will be out of commission for a while. A recent study of the 90-year-old South Deerfield building by an environmental firm revealed the presence of asbestos, lead paint and mold, among other issues. The center serves the towns of Deerfield, Sunderland and Whately, and there is an active search underway ro find a new location while town officials decide how to best repair the current structure.

A tent was set up behind the senior center in June to give local seniors a place to gather safely. With the eventual arrival of colder weather, senior center staff will need to find alternate locations soon.
