(Springfield, MA) The Springfield Police Department announced yesterday the arrest of a suspect in downtown break-ins, but it is unclear if the arrest is related to other car break-ins in the area. Suspect Christian Mercardo of Springfield is accused of breaking and entering a vehicle, larceny, carrying a dangerous weapon, and possession of a Class A Drug. Mercado is accused of evading police and ignoring officer’s commands and leading officers and K-9s on a foot pursuit. Upon a search, brass knuckles, a screw driver, a purse, and 63 bags of heroin were discovered. Detectives at the Springfield Police Department investigated the break-ins, where the suspect allegedly would use his cell phone as a flashlight and break windows to get into cars.
