BOSTON, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Conway, Belchertown, Northampton and South Hadley have considered generational tobacco bans, which would ban anyone who is born after 2004 from buying tobacco products in the future.
However, a state bill may prohibit the implementation of these kinds of local bans on legal consumer products.
The municipal tobacco sale bans, and other local policies, act as a testing ground for policies that may become statewide, and it is unclear if this proposed bill would retroactively disallow towns from implementing their own rules like the generational tobacco ban.
