(Hatfield, MA) Update: Hatfield Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on King Street Sunday just after 1:30 p.m. to find the first floor of the building fully involved and smoke coming from the roof line. Deteriorating conditions of the building required crews to change strategy and an excavator was brought in for safety and allow access for firefighters to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
Mutual aid was provided by Whately, South Deerfield, and Northampton, while Hadley Fire covered the Hatfield station. The resident was not home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
