(Greenfield, MA) There is currently an active fire on Prospect Street in Greenfield. According to the Greenfield Fire Department the structure fire followed an explosion from the home. Firefighters are unable to enter the building and are using aerial ladders to access the fire through the roof. One person sustained an injury from the explosion and was transported to the hospital. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Turners Fire, Bernardston Fire, Deerfield Fire, and Brattleboro Fire were on scene to assist with the efforts. People are asked to avoid the area so that the crews can work.

Bill Gordon, Deputy Police Chief at the Greenfield Police Department, said the evidence at the scene certainly supports the cause of the fire as an explosion, but there is still more investigating that needs to be done. Since fire fighters are not able to go into the building at this time due to the questionable structural integrity, the exact cause of the explosion is undetermined. Gordon also confirmed that the injured party was transported to Franklin Medical Center.
