(Sunderland, MA) Sunderland Police arrested Christian Alonzo, a wanted fugitive in New Mexico on Friday, June 10th. Just before noon on Friday, Sunderland Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos responded to a noise complaint in the Cliffside Apartments at 248 Amherst Road. Chief Demetropoulos was informed by the Massachusetts State Police Dispatch out of Shelburne that the individual being questioned, Alonzo, had a warrant from New Mexico.

In that time, Alonzo had left the apartment complex and Leverett Police Officer Belanger was called in to aid in locating the fugitive and received information that led them to find Alonzo at a McDonald’s in Hadley. Hadley Police Sergeant Romano and Officer Robitaille, with Sunderland Chief Demetropoulos located and arrested Alonzo in the McDonald’s. 

Alonzo was wanted on charges of Abuse of a Child (a 1st Degree Felony) and Tampering with Evidence (a 3rd Degree Felony) that led to the death of an infant. Alonzo is awaiting extradition at the Greenfield District Court.
