(Hadley, MA) –A man and woman from Hampden County have been arraigned in connection with a Sunday night shooting at the Hadley Walmart. Wilmer Alvarez, 26, of Chicopee and Keyla Fernandez, 32, of Holyoke were arraigned Monday morning in eastern Hampshire District Court. Alvarez is charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, as well as multiple drug and gun charges. He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Fernandez is being held on $5,000 bail and was charged with being an accessory after the fact, misleading a police officer, and drug charges.
According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Alvarez allegedly shot the victims, aged 18 and 19, in the store’s bathroom. One was shot in the face and leg and the other was shot in the arm and chest. The victims then left the bathroom and drove by police, who stopped the car and got them medical treatment. They are currently being treated at Baystate Medical Center. Alvarez and Fernandez allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle, which was stopped on Russel Street by police a short time later. The shooting remains under investigation.
