(Athol, MA) – Silver Lake Beach in Athol is now closed due to high E-Coli levels. On July 16,the Athol Board of Health announced that the beach had been closed due to the elevated bacteria levels, which have made the area unsafe for swimmers. The closure comes in the wake of what is expected to be the hottest weather of the summer season. There is no timetable as yet for the beach to reopen.
