(Springfield, MA)  A Baystate Health official has confirmed that there are now three pediatric cases of COVID-19 in the Baystate Health System, where as previously there have been zero pediatric cases to date. The Baystate official noted that COVID-19 hospitalizations in children are still rare. In terms of Franklin County, the official said that the area does better than the other areas in Western Massachusetts. While pediatric cases are still rare, a condition called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome, or MIS-C in children can cause hospitalization. Most children recover from COVID-19 and do not need hospitalization, but some cases of MIS-C are life threatening.  To learn more about MIS-C in children go to the Mayo Clinic website or click here.
