(Buckland, MA) The Buckland Select Board will be holding a Public Hearing on Tuesday, January 24th to take comment on the FY22 and FY23 Community Development Block Grant Application. Projects include infrastructure improvements to Depot Street and the Freight Yard Parking Lot and Food Pantry Services by Community Action Pioneer Valley.

The Town of Buckland may request up to $1.35 million in its application, including program delivery and general administration expenses. The Public Hearing will be held on January 24th at 6 p.m. at Buckland Town Hall 17 State Street, Shelburne Falls. 

Towns and cities across the state are requesting proposals for social service programs to apply for funding on their behalf through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the program was designed to empower “people and communities to design and implement strategies tailored to their own needs and priorities” and to expand and strengthen “partnerships among all levels of government and the private sector in enhancing community development.”

Massachusetts has approximately $69 million in available funds to allocate to municipalities with populations under 50,000. Local governments are posting their requests for proposals on their respective websites with proposals due by January 4th, 2023.

Town of Montague

The Town of Montague has issued a request for proposals for public social service programs to be considered in the town’s Community Development Block Grant application.

Eligibility requirements include addressing the needs of Montague residents as identified by the Massachusetts  Department of Community Development and the Town of Montague’s 2018-2023 Community Development Strategy. Additionally, proposals must meet the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 by benefiting Montague residents with low to moderate income. Some eligible social service activities include job training, domestic violence prevention, literacy training, elderly services, and homelessness.

Applications will be accepted and opened at the Franklin County Regional housing and Redevelopment Authority in Turners Falls at January 4th at 2 p.m.
