GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Trial is set to start in the coming days for the Vermont man who allegedly fell asleep driving on Route 2 in Greenfield and collided with a vehicle seriously injuring a Rhode Island family heading home from a ski trip in March of 2023.

According to witnesses, Hattat was seen crossing into oncoming traffic on Route 2 when he collided with the vehicle occupied by two parents and two children from Rhode Island. The parents were transported by medical helicopter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, while the children were transported by ambulance.

Javery Hattat has pleaded not guilty to negligent operation of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs, reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of cocaine, and marked lane violations.
