(Turners Falls, MA) — Turners Falls drivers got a taste yesterday of what life would be like with only one working bridge into town. With the General Pierce Bridge over Montague City closed and Turners Falls Road temporarily shut down for pre-paving milling work, the only means of egress from Turners Falls to Greenfield was the Gill-Montague Bridge. The result was a rush hour traffic bottleneck which had cars back up from the Gill side of the bridge to the center of downtown Turners. Further delays are not expected until paving commences the week of November 4th.

A snapshot in time via google maps showing the traffic slowdown over the Gill-Montague Bridge early Thursday afternoon, October 21st. With the long-term General Pierce Bridge closure and Turners Falls Road closed for paving work, the G-M was the only bridge available to motorists.
