(Montague, MA) 1st alarm brush fire endangered a residence on Friday evening. The fire spanned two acres in an uphill woodland area on Dry Hill Road in Montague Center.
Greenfield, Turners Falls, Erving, Northfield, Sunderland, DCR District 9, and New Salem Fire Departments responded to assist Montague Fire Department with the aid of Shelburne and Montague Dispatch Centers.
After returning from this fire, DCR Bureau of Forest Fire Control, Montague, and Turners Falls Fire Departments were called to a brush fire caused by illegal fireworks that combined with dry vegetation and gusty winds to cause a 1/2 acre fire on Green Pong Road under the power lines in Montague. The fire was contained within fifteen minutes of arriving on scene.
