There will be no football for the University of Massachusetts in Amherst this year. The season has been cancelled. UMass Athletic Director Ryan Bamford made the announcement Tuesday morning. saying the health and safety of student athletes, coaches and staff are the organizations top priority. And the challenges surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic pose too great a risk. A UMass press release said football players will remain enrolled in school full-time, either virtually or in-person. UMass may explore playing in the spring, depending on the status of the pandemic.
