(Worcester, MA) UMass LifeFlight will now be able to transport injured K9 dogs via helicopter throughout the state.
UMass worked with Dr. Sean Majoy from Tufts University to develop a curriculum and teach LifeFlight crew appropriate K9 care. UMass LifeFlight has gained specialized equipment through the Massachusetts State Police K9 section to facilitate the care and transportation of the animals.
Governor Baker signed An Act allowing humane transportation of K9 partners, also known as “Nero’s Law.” This bill allows emergency medical personnel to provide emergency medical treatment and transport of K9 partners. “Nero’s Law” is a response to the emergency services denied to K9 Nero who incurred critical injuries in 2018 during a shooting that killed Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon.
