AMHERST, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — UMass Amherst announced Thursday that researchers at the university have developed a nanoparticle vaccine that has prevented multiple kinds of cancer in mice, as well as proving highly effective at preventing the spread of cancer.

The nanoparticles are engineered to activate the immune system to prevent tumor growth with “remarkable” survival rates.

In the study, the vaccine prevented melanoma, pancreatic, and triple-negative breast cancer in mice. Up to 88% of the mice remained tumor-free through the study.
