Umass Student Dead After Being Struck By Car On Campus

(Amherst, MA) A 19 year old University student from Mississippi is dead after being struck by a car on the Umass Amherst campus Tuesday night. Elena Lucore, a student at Umass, was walking with a friend outside of the former visitor’s center when she was struck by a car being driven  by a 21 year old male student. Lucore was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle reportedly told police he was returning from the library at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation by State Police attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, investigators with the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and UMass Police. The Office of the Chief Medical Officer will determine the cause of death.
