(Vernon, VT) The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant stands to complete the decommissioning project four years early. The facility has been closed since 2014, after operating for over 40 years, and NorthStar obtained the site in 2019 working to quickly demolish the facility. While low-level radioactive materials have been transported for disposal, the nuclear fuel is still on property until a solution can be found after the license to store the fuel at an interim Texas storage facility was revoked. Until the fuel can be moved, the site will not be fully open for development.
