(undated) — For the first time in many months, Western Massachusetts is no longer in a drought. Recent heavy rains have increased river and water table levels to a point that drought conditions have been eliminated. One of the downsides to the heavy rains have been elevated bacteria levels in some waterways, which have forced some popular swimming areas to close temporarily. State environmental officials say this is already the third wettest July on record, with more than half the month still to go.
