(Whately, MA) — It was a great day for a parade Saturday in Whately, as residents turned out in force to celebrate the town’s 250th birthday.
“We had a great turnout and a lot of different organizations got involved,” said Whately Fire Chief John Hannum, who led the parade on the Fire Department’s Engine 4.
The all-vehicle parade lined up at the new Whately town offices and wound through town, eventually passing the Whately Inn, Dickinson Library and the former town hall, across Route 5 and 10 and up Christian Lane. The parade took about two hours and was broadcast live on You Tube and Frontier Community Access Television. It is the first in a series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the town’s incorporation.
