WHATELY, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Members of Whately’s Selectboard and the Center School Visioning Committee were unsatisfied by the two responses to the request for proposals for the sale of the Whately Center School. The committee formed to review the proposals recommended the town go with Robert Obear’s proposal to purchase the property for $1,000 and then renovate the space into a single-family home. Obear also bought the Blue School in Whately for $1,000 and is renovating that building into nine apartments.

As neither of the proposals met the community’s requests for the property, the Visioning Committee has requested additional time to look at options to keep the building under the town’s ownership such as determining eligibility for Community Preservation Act funds and raising funds to pay for necessary repairs.
