(WHATELY) –The town of Whately will soon begin budget deliberations, and one of the things the Selectboard is looking to do is streamline the process, as remote meetings generally run much longer than in-person.
Board member Jonathan Edwards says one way to accomplish this is to not get too bogged down on this past year’s budget.
“The past fiscal year has so little resemblance of reality, just because of spending patterns living in the Covid world”, said Edwards. “I’m really not sure it’s going to be a fruitful discussion to talk about ‘why was X, Y, or Z spent’ because with so many budgets their hands were tied.”
The first budget meeting is set for early March. The annual Town Meeting has been pushed back to a tentative date of June 15th.
