(WHATELY) — The Town of Whately next week will consider a plan to partially reopen the town office. The proposal would have the service window open to town residents on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Selectboard member Joyce Palmer-Fortune said she is willing to go along with the plan.

“I think if the consensus among folks who work there–especially the ones working the window–is that we can start opening for three mornings a week, I think we should give it a try,” Palmer-Fortune said. “It’s always subject to review.”

Fellow board member Jonathan Edwards admits that he’s a little apprehensive.

“I think one of the reasons we are seeing a downtick in COVID cases is because we have been so diligent,” said Edwards. “(The virus) is not magically going away. It goes away because people take precautions.”

The board will revisit the issue at its March 10 meeting.
