(Whately, MA) The Whately Police Department has announced that they will be implementing police officer body cameras. Three cameras and the necessary hardware have been purchased and officers are being trained in their use. Officers will also undergo policy and procedure training in the use of the technology.

“I’m confident that this program will not only ensure police transparency, but improve safety and accountability for our officers as well as the individuals we interact with,” said Police Chief James A. Sevigne in a recent press release.

Sevigne also said that the technology can assist in prosecution by providing evidence of criminal activity.

”I believe there will be many benefits to the community because of the body camera usage while on patrol,” said Sevigne.
