GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — With the help of an anonymous donor, the Franklin County YMCA acquired the neighboring property of the Zion Korean Church on Main Street. Now, the Historical Commission is considering a delay on the demolition of the church due to the church’s ties with the abolitionist movement.
The Commission was informed of demolition plans by Mayor Ginny Desorgher the day after the contract for demolition was signed. While suggestions were made to Commissioners for memorial type projects, the Commissioners favored the prospect of delaying the demolition to discuss options further.
