(Franklin County, MA) Pfizer and Moderna are expected to have updated vaccine formulas this fall, according to the Food and Drug Administration. These vaccines are being formulated to protect against the Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, as well as the original strain of the virus. The subvariants are the leading cause of the virus spread this year.

The White House is planning a fall booster campaign with the newly formulated vaccines. The Biden administration has secured 105 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine and agreed to buy 66 million doses of the Moderna vaccine, once the FDA approves of the effectiveness of the new formulas.

The FDA is still encouraging everyone that is eligible to get a second booster now if they haven’t already. This include adults over 50 and those over twelve years old who have health concerns that make them more vulnerable to the virus.
