The Massachusetts Primary Election closed polls at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Here are the results as of 3 a.m. Wednesday morning:
Unsurprisingly, Maura Healey is now the Democratic nominee for Governor of Massachusetts. Sonia Chang-Diaz ran against her in the primary, but stopped campaigning before election day, handing the election to Healey who garnered more than 85% of the votes cast statewide. Healey will now face the Republican gubernatorial nominee, the Trump-backed Geoff Diehl who narrowly defeated his opponent Chris Doughty, a centrist businessman. Heading into the general election scheduled for November 8th, Diehl is expected to be the underdog candidate in a state that has been led by moderate Republicans for 24 of the last 32 years.
The race for the democratic nominee for lieutenant governor was won by Kimberley Driscoll at 47% of the vote. Eric Lesser came in at over 32% and Tami Gouveia came in at 20%. The Republican nominee for lieutenant governor was a much closer race. Leah Allen won 52% of the vote and Kate Campanale received almost 48% of the votes.
Winning just over 50% of the vote, Andrea Campbell beat Shannon Liss-Riordan for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General, after Quentin Palfrey dropped out one week before election day.
State representative for the Second Berkshire district, Paul Mark, easily won the Democratic nomination for a state senate seat representing Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire counties. The senate seat was formerly held by Adam Hinds, who ran for Lieutenant Governor but dropped out several weeks ago. Mark’s current state representative seat was eliminated during the congressional redistricting process.
