(Greenfield, MA) Construction for the Greenfield Skatepark will begin Monday, September 12th.. The skatepark will be in the northern portion of the parking lot between Chapman and Davis Streets, spanning 12,000 square feet.

“The skatepark is yet another example of strategic investments we are making in the heart of downtown,” said Mayor Roxann Wedegartner. “From the new library at one end of Main Street, to the new fire station at the other end, to the skatepark between Main Street and the John Zon Center, these are projects that will enhance our community.”

Construction will start with putting in temporary fencing and erosion control materials, followed by making cuts in the blacktop where concrete work will go in later this fall. The project is estimated to be complete by late spring 2023.

The budget for this project has increased about $200,000 “due to site conditions and increases in material costs” and now totals $980,000, paid for with a state grant of $400,000, $200,000 in ARPA funds, $30,000 from community donations, and $350,000 in City capital funds.

“We are happy to break ground and get this project underway for the community,” said Recreation Director Christy Moore. “I know the design, based in large part on input from the community, won’t disappoint.”

Pillar Design Studios has designed this skatepark to include features for all skill levels and includes a nod to Poet’s Seat Tower. This design company has worked on similar projects in Turners Falls, Springfield, and Worcester. Chicopee-based Mountain View Landscapes was awarded the construction contract through the competitive bidding process.
