(Orange, MA) A feral cat in Orange has tested positive for rabies according to the Orange Board of Health. The Board of Health was notified by the North Quabbin Regional Animal Control that a feral cat from a colony in the area of Ball, Kelton, and Prospect Streets was exhibiting signs typical of rabies. The cat was then captured by animal control, euthanized and tested for rabies, which came back positive. Three weeks prior to this incident on August 24th, a raccoon tested positive for rabies in Charlemont. Animals exhibiting signs of rabies like acting sickly or aggressive should not be approached as rabies can be spread through contact with the saliva of an infected animal. Franklin County Animal Control can be reached at 413-774-7340.
