(Greenfield, MA) Construction began at the new Greenfield Fire Station with a Breaking Ground ceremony on Monday, November 14th.

“The city of Greenfield is grateful to everyone who has had a hand in bringing the long-held dream of a new fire station to reality. Thank you,” Mayor Wedegartner said in a message.

The Mayor began the ceremony saying, “What a great day for Greenfield.” Speakers included a blessing of the site by Fire Department Chaplin Father Tomasz Gorny, Fire Chief Robert Strahan, Dennis Ross from H2M Architects and Engineers, Scott Soares from the USDA Southern New England Rural Development branch, and co-chairs of the Fire Station Building Committee Robert “Butch” Hawkins and David Singer.

The construction of the station is projected to take just over a year and is budgeted for $21.7 million, part of which is funded by a $987,000 USDA grant.
