Press Release from Roxann 4 Mayor

(Greenfield, MA) In announcing her bid for reelection to a second term, Mayor Roxann Wedegartner cited her love of Greenfield and the job of being mayor along with a list of accomplishments under her leadership.

“As I look back over the last three years, I see that despite the challenges of living and governing in a pandemic, we persevered and it has paid off. I think I’ve shown the people of Greenfield that I’m not afraid to meet challenges head on and I can get results on the things I said I would do when I first ran for Mayor,” said Wedegartner

Among the accomplishments she lists are the building of a long-awaited skate park, something she pledged to make happen when she ran for her first term; embarking on a robust downtown redevelopment strategy that includes completion of the new Greenfield Public Library, progress on building a new fire station, and redevelopment of Wilson’s department store with 65 units of workforce housing and retail opportunities. Redevelopment of downtown Greenfield also includes working closely with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation on grant- funded Main Street infrastructure improvements to make travel safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Wedegartner said that all of these undertakings have been achieved while also focusing on being a good steward of the taxpayer’s dollars by seeking out

grant funds that allow the City to do projects they couldn’t afford otherwise and by maintaining fiscal responsibility that enables the city to continue providing the many services residents have come to rely on.

“My plans for Greenfield continue to be laser focused on a clear-eyed, ‘get stuff done’ approach,” said Wedegartner.

Acknowledging that moving Greenfield forward is a work in progress that takes hard work, Mayor Wedegartner said she will focus on creating opportunities for economic development that can grow the tax base and provide livable wage jobs. Examples of that economic development work are proposing the rezoning of approximately 40 acres on the French King Highway to help existing employers expand as well as attract new advanced manufacturers. Growing our tax base is essential to providing the city with the money it needs to invest in the city’s schools, its employees, and its infrastructure.

“With the voters support, I’ll carry on providing the leadership that Greenfield needs and deserves to make Greenfield an even better place to live. Let’s get to work,” said Wedegartner.
