(South Deerfield, MA) — The Frontier Regional School District has found an innovative way to honor its graduating senior class.
Adorning the front lawn of the South Deerfield School are a series of signs containing the names and pictures of each member of the FRS Class of 2020, which has been forced to forgo the second half of its senior year because of the COVID 19 pandemic.
“These signs are just our small way of saying we appreciate our seniors,: Frontier Assistant Principal Scott Dredge said. “They’ve had a lot taken away from them this spring, and this is a way of thanking them for their resiliency and their patience.”
Dredge said the idea for the signs came from a group of parents who had heard about a similar effort in another part of the country. Dredge said the district then reached out to Rich Logan of Blazing Light Photography, which created the signs which were set up once the rains of earlier this week cleared up.
Dredge said despite the pandemic, Frontier officials have not given up the possibility of holding a graduation ceremony later this summer.
“We are looking at holding a week’s worth of activities and a ceremony on August 8,” Dredge said. “Of course, all of that is contingent on the social distancing measures being lifted by the state, but we wanted to plan it at least…it seems more personal than something done virtually on-line.”
Graduating seniors will be able to pick up their signs and take them home if they so choose.
