GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLINCOUNTYNOW) — The General Manager of the Franklin Community Co-op recently stated that plans are still moving forward with the redevelopment of the former Wilson’s Department Store in Greenfield.

The plan is for Green Fields Market to move from its current location at 144 Main Street into the ground floor and basement of Wilson’s, with 65 mixed-income housing units to be constructed on the second and third floors.

Franklin Community Co-op General Manager John Williams told Franklin County Now that patience is the key word right now with this project.

“It’s a process,” said Williams. “It’s complex. There are so many moving parts here. There are so many entities working together to make this happen. So, with that said, our target keeps moving back and forth.”

Williams said the expectation is that work can begin within a year, with the market opening in 2026. Williams acknowledged that funding a project of this magnitude has added another layer of complexity to it.
