GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A public health advisory has been issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health after fish contaminated with PCBs and PFAS were found in the Connecticut River.
Residents of Northfield, Gill, Erving, Montague, Greenfield, Deerfield, Sunderland, Whately, Hatfield, Hadley, Northampton, Easthampton, South Hadley, Holyoke, Chicopee, West Springfield, Springfield, Agawam, and Longmeadow are being warned against eating American Eel, Channel Catfish, White Catfish and Yellow Perch from the Connecticut River, and limiting all other fish from the river to no more than two meals per month.
Sensitive populations including children and pregnant women are told not to consume any fish from the river.
