GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A Downtown Cleanup was announced by Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher at last night’s City Council meeting. While the cleanup is held in the spirit of Earth Day, the event will take place on Friday, April 25th from 12 to 3 p.m. in the business districts of Main Street, Federal Street, Hope Street and Bank Row. No registration is required for the event, the Mayor only asks volunteers to come equipped with gloves.

Mayor Desorgher Invites Community to Downtown Cleanup on Friday, April 25

GREENFIELD— In the spirit of Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, Greenfield Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher is hosting a downtown clean-up on Friday, April 25 from 12 – 3 p.m. The cleanup will cover from the Main Street/Federal Street intersection to Conway Street and some terrain on Bank Row, Federal Street and Hope Street.

“Our downtown features a beautiful blend of local businesses, vivid art displays and Franklin County’s distinct regional charm,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher. “This cleanup day will be a great opportunity to connect with all of you as we show our support and appreciation for the downtown community.”

Downtown cleanup will be convened at the Greenfield Common (14 Court Square, Greenfield, MA). Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, although some will be available on location to provide extras.

From there, people will work in two groups to pick up litter throughout the downtown.

Group One  –

·       Begin cleanup at the Greenfield Common before walking down Bank Row, turning right onto Hope Street, then turning up the street to the Main/Hope Street intersection. Cleaning efforts will focus on the area near the Main/Federal intersection before concluding at the Greenfield Common. If there is additional time, clean-up will also include the Ames Street Lot.

Group Two –  

·       Begin cleanup at the Main Street/Court Square intersection before walking down Main Street. Clean-up will visit the Miles Street Pocket Park before crossing the street at Conway Street. Cleanup will conclude with the remainder of Main Street. If there is additional time, clean-up will also include the Chapman/Davis Lot.

The cleanup fun continues Saturday, April 26. The Greenfield Business Association and Blooming Greenfield will be hosting a clean-up of the downtown bee sculptures on Saturday, April 26 at 11 AM. Cleanup will convene at the Greenfield Common by the Farmers’ Market.
