GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — At Wednesday’s Greenfield City Council meeting the councilors voted in favor of spending $354,000 to settle pending litigation related to the tax title taking of a property that was taken for failure to pay taxes and when sold, the city kept the profits beyond the amount owed in taxes.
This is expected to be the only such case as according to Mayor Desorgher, the state has put new statute of limitations regulations in place since passing the law that requires municipalities to return surplus equity to the former owner.
