COLRAIN, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Last night, Colrain voters approved a 0.75% local meals excise tax. The tax burden falls on customers of the two local food options, Catamount Country Store and Pinehill.
Emily Thurber, Selectboard member and manager of Catamount, spoke at the Town Meeting saying it is a small fee, aimed at capturing some tax funds from out of town travelers who stop by on their way through.
The tax would only collect 75 cents for every hundred dollars spent on read made food, so Thurber estimated, based on last year’s sales, that Catamount would source approximately $600 to $1,000 annually through the tax, which would be collected by the state and returned to the town.
Colrain voters approved all 24 other warrant articles in approximately 90 minutes, a shorter meeting than last year’s Annual Town Meeting.
