GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The long-delayed reopening of the Colrain Street Bridge in Greenfield has happened.

The bridge opened to traffic on Friday morning after numerous delays. MassDOT was in the charge of the project and initially was planning a relatively short closure for repairs. Once the repairs began, MassDOT discovered the decking was in much worse condition than assumed, and the decision was made to fully replace the decking.

While the bridge has been out of use for the project, the spillover effect on the traffic patterns on the west side of the city was significant. Now that the bridge has been reopened, that situation is expected to be greatly alleviated.
