(North Adams, MA) One of the police officers that lost his life in the recent assault on Capitol police was a man named William Evans from North Adams, MA. Evans was an 18 year veteran of the force and was a member of the first responders unit. Evans was killed on Friday when a car rammed into him and another officer at a barricade in Washington D.C. The suspect, 25 year old Noah Green, allegedly exited the vehicle and lunged at officers before he was shot.

The Massachusetts State Police have released a statement regarding the attacks on police officers on Capitol Hill.

“We currently are aware of no connection between the suspected assailant and Massachusetts, nor are there any credible or specific threats of violent activity of a similar nature in this state,” read the statement released by Dave Procopio Director of Media Communications.

The Massachusetts State Police said in the statement that they have the capability to adjust to an increased threat level if intelligence dictates, and routinely maintain a high alert level at property under their jurisdiction.

“With heavy hearts we offer our condolences to our fellow officers of the Capitol Police and the families of the officers attacked in today’s incident,” the statement went on.

Locally, police departments in Franklin County have released statements sending their condolences to the coworkers and family of Evans.

“With a heavy heart, the Orange Police Department sends it’s condolences. To the family and friends of Officer Evans, the U.S. Capitol Police and the city of North Adams, we share your grief,” said the Orange Police Department.
