Governor Charlie Baker has signed into law new legislation intended to overhaul the lunch system in public schools, particularly as it relates to low-income students. The new law requires schools where a majority of students come from low-income families to enroll in federal programs allowing them to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. It also prohibits schools from publicly identifying or taking punitive action against students who have unresolved school meal debt issues.
